“THE TEN'S UNIT, when pads are placed in the correct position, I GET IMMEDIATE RELIEF FROM Back Pain that radiates to hips, left leg and knee.”

@ml007, registered nurse — Mayo Clinic Connect. A public forum post, not a customer review.
📦 What's in the box
  • · 2 × wireless pods
  • · 2 × reusable oval gel pads
  • · 1 × charging case (free — normally $29)
  • · 1 × USB-C charging cable
  • · 1 × plain-English instruction card, printed large

And by email, straight away:

  • · The 30-Day Walking Test — 16-page e-book, PDF, with a printable progress card (free — normally $29)
🔋 How to use it
  • 1 · Snap a pod onto a gel pad. It clicks on magnetically. No wires.
  • 2 · Place one each side of your spine, about a thumb's width off the bone. Never on the bone itself.
  • 3 · Press the button. Step the level up until you feel a firm, steady pull — not a sting.
  • 4 · Fifteen minutes. Sit, read, or keep them on and walk around the house.

Do it daily. Every customer sentence we have ever read about a device like this says the same thing: consistency is what decides the result.

Drag the handle

The reason the last one ended up in a drawer.

It wasn't that it hurt. It's that applying four pads with leads, alone, with a bad back, is a job. Nobody does a job every day for thirty days.

The white charging case alone in the same drawer, now cleared out.
An old wired TENS unit tangled among the clutter of a kitchen drawer.
What you own What this is

Left: a typical four-lead wired TENS unit. Right: the EpticLabs Deep Core System. Both photographed as they live.

A man stops halfway up his own driveway with a hand on his lower back.

Your world has been getting smaller, one block at a time.

First it was the second lap around the block. Then the far end of the parking lot. Now it's your own driveway, and you stop halfway and pretend to check the mail.

You have done the injections. Three good weeks, then it's back. You have done the therapy — it helped in the room and stopped helping in the car park. There is a TENS unit in a drawer somewhere with the wires still knotted around it.

None of that was your fault. Here is what all of it missed.

The mechanism, in one picture

It's a parking brake for your spine. Yours has been stuck off for years.

Illustration comparing a full deep spinal stabiliser muscle with a wasted, fatty-infiltrated one.
Left: the deep stabiliser doing its job. Right: the same muscle after years of not being asked to. Illustration based on the fatty-infiltration findings published in Frontiers in Neurology (2021), where this change was measured on MRI in lumbar spinal stenosis patients and tracked with worse pain and disability. It is a drawing, not a scan of a real patient.

Deep in your lower back, wrapped around every vertebra, sits a small muscle called the multifidus. Its whole job is to hold each bone a fraction off the one below it, all day, without you thinking about it.

Sixty years of chairs did that job for it. Then pain told your nervous system to quiet the signals to a muscle near an injury. So it switched off — and it does not switch back on by itself.

You can't turn it on by trying harder, because it was never on your pedal. A current can reach past the pedal and pull the brake directly. That is the only thing this device does. It doesn't mask a signal. It contracts the muscle.

What fifteen minutes looks like

Nobody has to know you're wearing it.

Two pods, no leads, nothing hanging out of your shirt. Sit with it, or put it on and go about your morning.

A woman in her sixties at her kitchen table, smiling, holding the charging case.

On the couch. Fifteen minutes with the news on. It is the easiest thing you will do all day.

A man in his seventies in his armchair, the open charging case on the armrest.

In the case. Both pods charge in it, it closes shut, and it fits in a coat pocket or a handbag.

An older couple walking away down a suburban sidewalk.

On the walk. Wear them under a shirt and keep moving. That is the whole point of no wires.

Photographs made for EpticLabs to show how and where the device is worn. They are illustrations of use, not customer reviews.

In their own words

We are new. These people are not.

None of these are product reviews. They are public posts by people living with lumbar spinal stenosis, quoted verbatim from patient forums — nobody was paid, and nobody here is our customer. They are the reason the device exists. Reviews of the device itself are further down this page.

“I have tried virtually every known therapy — steroid injections at the nerve root (spine), physical therapy, pharmaceuticals (tramadol and gabapentin currently), acupuncture, yoga, chiropractic, etc.”

“I learned of a lumbar spinal stenosis walking program that suggested walking until the pain got to about a 4 of 10 — then stop until the pain subsides — then walk again… I've been able to walk more than a mile without the pain recurring. P.S. I'm 85 years old.”

“With having limited ROM in both shoulders, along with excruciating pain in the left, there's no way I could apply it myself.”

Quoted verbatim, spelling included, from public patient forums — follow the links to read them in full. Statements about living with spinal stenosis, not reviews of this product. The portraits are illustrative photography, not the people quoted.

Not just the lower back

Two pods. Four places they earn their keep.

  • 🦴 Lower backThe stiff first ten minutes out of bed, and the ache that arrives at 3pm.
  • 🚶 Hips and glutesThe one that shows up twenty minutes after you stand up in a queue.
  • 💆 Neck and shouldersThe knot between the shoulder blades that comes back every afternoon.
  • 🦵 Thighs and calvesHeavy legs after you have been on your feet longer than your back wanted.

The honest comparison

What else is on the menu, and what each one actually does.

Not against another gadget. Against the four things you have already been offered.

EpticLabs Physical
therapy
Epidural
injections
A $25 wired
TENS unit
Aimed at the deep stabiliser muscle
You can do it at home, alone
Nothing enters your body
You can stop at any time, no damage done
One payment, not a bill every visit
Ends up in a drawer after a month

A physical therapy visit runs roughly $30–75 in co-pay, every visit, for as long as you keep going. Cochrane looked at TENS and found conflicting evidence on pain intensity and, across two trials of 410 patients, no improvement in back-specific function (Cochrane CD003008). Your disappointment with that unit was the correct result. It was doing a different job.

Four steps, and one of them is “sit down”

If you can work a TV remote, you can work this.

  1. PeelSnap a pod onto a gel pad. It clicks on magnetically.
  2. PlaceOne each side of your spine, a thumb's width off the bone.
  3. PressOne button. Step the level up until the pull feels firm, not sharp.
  4. LiveFifteen minutes. Read, watch the news, or get up and go make coffee.

Pages from The 30-Day Walking Test e-book.

Pain scores move with your mood. Distance doesn't. So every order comes with The 30-Day Walking Test — a 16-page e-book, emailed to you the moment you order, written for exactly one condition and one device:

· The walk-to-4-out-of-10 interval method, the one an 85-year-old on Mayo Clinic Connect used to get back past a mile.
· A pad placement map for the lower back, hips, neck, shoulders and legs — where they go, and where they must never go.
· The 15-minute daily routine, done sitting down.
· Six flexion-based stretches that are safe with a narrow canal, and the two common ones that are not.
· A printable 30-day card inside the PDF. Day 1 you write down where you had to stop. Day 30 you write it down again.

The part that matters most

Ninety nights. Then tell us the truth.

We are not going to promise you a result in ninety days. Nobody honest can. What we guarantee is the money: use it every day, write down your distance on day 1 and again on day 90, and if it has not moved, email us and we arrange the return. No restocking fee and nothing deducted from your refund. Nothing goes overseas.

And nothing here renews behind your back. Gel pads are a one-time purchase, whenever you decide you want more. If we ever add a repeat-delivery option, it will be a box you tick yourself, with the price and the interval shown before you pay, and one click to cancel. Never something switched on for you at checkout. If you have been burned by a device company before, that is the whole reason this paragraph is here.

Frequently asked questions

I already tried a TENS unit and it did nothing. Why would this be different?
Because a TENS unit is engineered to stay below the level that makes a muscle move. It modulates the pain signal and deliberately avoids contraction. This runs an EMS programme that crosses that line and contracts the muscle directly, which is a different job — not a stronger version of the same one.
How is this different from the $25 one on Amazon?
On the electricity: less than you'd think. On everything that decides whether you actually use it: completely. No leads, no wires, you can apply it alone, and you can wear it while you walk around. The unit that lives in a drawer has an effectiveness of zero, whatever its specification sheet says.
I did physical therapy for months and it didn't hold. Will this?
Physical therapy trains the muscles you can feel. The deep stabiliser isn't under voluntary control in any practical sense, which is exactly why it kept getting skipped. We should also be straight with you: research into whether electrical stimulation can reverse deficits in these deep spinal muscles is promising but not settled — one 2022 trial protocol states plainly that it "remains unknown". We'd rather you read that here than find it later.
Can I put the pads on by myself?
Yes, and this is the reason the thing exists in this shape. Two separate pods, no leads between them, and each one snaps onto its pad magnetically. One hand, reaching behind you, no shoulder rotation needed. No spouse required.
Where exactly do the pads go?
One each side of your spine, roughly a thumb's width off the bone, level with where the ache sits. Never directly on the spine itself, never over the front or sides of the neck, never on broken skin. The free e-book has a placement map for the back, hips, neck, shoulders and legs.
Will it hurt?
It should not. At the right level it feels like a deep, rhythmic squeeze — a firm pull rather than a sting. Start at the lowest setting and step up one level at a time. If it stings, it is too high or the pad is too close to the spine.
I have a pacemaker, an implanted stimulator, or an irregular heartbeat.
Do not use this device. Electrical stimulation is contraindicated with a pacemaker, implanted defibrillator or any implanted electronic device, during pregnancy, with epilepsy, with a known heart condition, over cancerous lesions, or on the front or sides of the neck. If you are being treated for a cardiac condition or you're unsure, ask your doctor before you order — not after.
Can I use it after a fusion or a laminectomy?
Never over surgical hardware, over a fresh scar, or without asking the surgeon who did the operation. Bring this page to your next appointment and ask them directly. If they say no, send it back inside the 90 nights and we refund you.
My skin reacts to adhesive pads.
These are reusable hydrogel pads rather than the dry paper-backed squares most cheap kits ship with, and they lift off with water rather than a pull. That said, if adhesive of any kind blisters you, that is a real problem and no gel is going to fix it. Order, try one session, and if your skin objects, send it back inside the 90 nights and we refund you.
How long do the gel pads last, and what do replacements cost?
A pad lasts roughly 20–30 sessions with normal use — longer if you press it back onto its liner after each session and keep it out of the sun. Replacements are a one-time purchase from us whenever you want them. There is no auto-renewal and no card kept on file.
How often should I use it?
Once a day, fifteen minutes, on the same schedule you would take a tablet. Twice is fine. More than that is not better. The variable that decides your result is not intensity, it is whether you did it yesterday and the day before.
How long before I know whether it's working?
Do the Walking Test. Write down on day 1 exactly where you had to stop — the mailbox, the third house, the end of the aisle. Check it again at day 30. That is a measurement you can trust, unlike a pain score, and it is why the e-book lands in your inbox the moment you order.
Can two people share one system?
The pods, yes. The gel pads, no — those are personal, for the same reason a toothbrush is. If both of you are going to use it daily, the two-system option works out cheaper than buying pads twice as often.
Will I be signed up for anything I did not ask for?
Not for anything you did not choose. There is no subscription on this order and nothing on this page renews on its own. If we later add a repeat-delivery option for gel pads, it will be a box you tick yourself, it will show the price and the interval before you pay, and it will be one click to cancel from your account. We will never switch one on for you.
If I return it, where does it go and who pays?
Email us inside the 90 nights and we send you return instructions. No restocking fee, and nothing deducted from your refund.
I'm 77 and I'm not good with technology.
There is no app, no Bluetooth pairing and no account. It is a button on a pod. Press once for on, press again to step the level up, hold to switch off. The instruction card in the box is printed large, in plain English.
